Stop TGS Seismic Testing Program in the Otway Basin

The Seismic Testing Working Group submitted an application against the Environmental Plan submitted by TGS. The Environmental Plan is an inaccurate evaluation of the mounting scientific evidence about the destruction caused by seismic blasts.

One of the issues that continue to come up is that there just isn't enough evidence of the potential impacts of seismic testing on marine and other animals. Sure, there have been some studies on seismic blasting on whales and dolphins. But, for penguins, shearwaters, seals, turtles, lobsters etc. studies are severely lacking.

TGS's Environmental Plan was over 1,400 pages. But, not once did the plan identify the Middle Island penguins as being affected or even considered as being impacted by the TGS project. To their credit TGS did mention the Phillip Island penguins, even though they are not anywhere close to the proposed area of the blasts. Just one of many oversights by TGS.

The plan submitted to Nopsema (the regulator) found many more issues and provided quite a few recommendations, which you can view here: https://vic.animaljusticeparty.org/submission_aug23_otwayseismictesting
